Francesco Bauco transforms Paolo Silvestrini's introspective monologue from Details of Details into a dynamic musical comedy that delves deep into the whirlwind of human relationships. In "What Am I Doing Here?", Bauco leads a lively ensemble through a riveting exploration of love, loss, and self-discovery.
Centered around a man grappling with his past loves, uncertainties, and the enigmatic allure of women, this theatrical journey weaves together poignant memories and quirky encounters. Elio, the protagonist's interactions with a colorful array of characters unfold on stage with a blend of humor and introspection.
From the excitement of romantic escapades to the depths of heartbreak and existential reflection, the production is enriched by the engaging performances of the talented ensemble including Lauren Waites, Michael Collins, Gaia Passaler, Alex Mason, and Ilaria Cerini, along with the captivating live music by the talented pianist Milena Gligic. Each scene, whether it's the awkward first-time sexual encounter in a car, a comical flight to Lisbon, or a humorous session with an uninterested psychologist, unfolds at a rapid, almost feverish pace. Every moment contributes layers to Elio's pursuit of elusive happiness.
Enhanced by the enchanting melodies of the original song 'HERE' and the captivating soundtrack composed by Stefano Gallon, 'What Am I Doing Here?' immerses the audience in a world where music weaves seamlessly through the heartwarming and comedic tapestry of human emotions, swept along on a journey marked by laughter, poignancy, and unexpected twists. Through clever storytelling and vibrant performances, "What Am I Doing Here?" paints a vivid portrait of one man's odyssey towards self-acceptance and closure, culminating in a poignant resolution that resonates with the audience.
